I’ve been quite lately, but I should be in the studio Friday hopefully with my good friend nick, too record some stuff for his DB’s uni project thing. And the amazing nathanieljtruscott will be doing vocals for my song! But for now, here’s a photo of my cat to keep you busy!

"The composer is like a singer who does not know how to
speak and can only sing, or a pianist who is asked to discuss
something and who sits at the piano without saying a word:
because – she knows it, and each listener understands it
straightaway – this is the way she will explain herself most
subtly, or best respond to our questioning. You are going to
say that this does not constitute an answer, and nonetheless
this mute answer is a response, an unusually eloquent one,
the drastic, manual response of the musician."

Signs and lyrics

Mark Twain Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

I’m reading the first chapter of this classic American novel to give me inspiration for lyrics for my groups Blues/Foke song that we are working on. Chapter one is spread between three pages and within these three pages I found so much vision and inspiration. So I took parts from the chapter and arranged them to make song lyrics. The chorus I’m still working on but here is my progress so far.

You don’t know about me
But that ain’t no matter
Widow Douglas she took me as her own
The widow cried over me called me a lost lamb
She never meant no harm

The widow told me about dead Moses
I didn’t care about him
He was long gone
I don’t take no stock in dead people

The widow told me about the bad place
I said I wish I was there
The widow was mad with me
It was a wicked thing I said appantely

The widow told me about the good place
I most wished I was dead
The widow fetched the niggers and made them pray
A dog was crying about somebody who was going to die

PMU17 Signs & Lyrics
The cut up technique is a technique in which a text is cut up and rearranged to create a new text.
Fold in is the technique of taking two sheets of linear text folding each sheet in half vertically and combining with the other then reading it.
From the early 1970s David Bowie has used cut ups to create some of his lyrics. Life on mars is an example of the cut up technique. This technique influenced Kurt Cobain’s songwriting. Thom Yorke applied a similar method in Radiohead’s Kid A album.
I tried using this technique in my lecture today and I must say it’s the strangest thing I’ve ever done before to write lyrics but I really enjoyed it.

So here are the lyrics I wrote from today’s lecture.

Terrorists are now under Washington
They are crying
Today is 25th of May
76 year old Yulial was shot yesterday

We need new faces
Who are untainted
By the past

Language as nationalists
Terrorists on Monday said
For complete peace
The stance of human rights
Must deliver international funds

We need new faces
Who are untainted
By the past

The Massed ranks of
19th century wooden platforms
Now revolutionise a syrup stormed
Political overthrowing joke

PMU 130 CREATIVE RECORDING, PRODUCTION, AND
PERFORMANCE SKILLS
This is a song that my Monday band ‘Wasp’ made in the semester 1 back in 2013. I mixed this track and also played bass in this track and it was good fun as I don’t play bass. The Acoustic guitar/Vocals Simon Wills, Drums Max Felts, Guitars/ Sam Wells and Jack Fordham. It was a pleasure to work with these guys!
